PiHue Creations is a handmade rug manufacturer and exporter based in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, the GI-tagged centre of Indian carpet weaving. The company was founded in 2021 by Deep Gupta and Ruchika Gupta and works with a network of weaving families across the Bhadohi belt.

PiHue produces hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-loomed and flatweave rugs in wool, silk, cotton, jute, viscose and recycled fibres. Hand-knotted construction is specified per design across a range of 20 to 180 knots per square inch. Dyeing is carried out at a contracted OEKO-TEX and RWS certified plant; washing and mechanical shearing are performed in-house by PiHue's own workers. Minimum order is one piece, with 10 square metres per design per colour for repeat production.

The company holds six certifications — GoodWeave, ISO 9001:2015, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GRS, RWS and SMETA 4-Pillar — with third-party testing through Hohenstein and Eurofins. GoodWeave licensing carries unannounced inspection of the weaving supply chain against child, forced and bonded labour.

PiHue exports to design brands, retailers and interior studios in Scandinavia, Western Europe, North America, the United Kingdom and Australia.

What we can speak to

How a rug is actually specified

Knot count, pile height, wool grade, finishing — what each one changes about the rug on the floor, and which of them buyers are routinely oversold.

Bhadohi and the GI

What the Geographical Indication protects, how the weaving belt is organised around family looms, and how the cluster has changed since 2021.

What certification costs a mid-size unit

On the record: what GoodWeave, GRS and RWS compliance requires operationally, including chain-of-custody across a contracted dye house.

Hand-knotted vs hand-tufted

The structural difference, the failure modes, the honest price gap, and when tufted is the right answer rather than the cheap one.

Wool sourcing and grading

Where pile wool comes from, what separates grades, and why the same design in two wools behaves differently after five years.

Rug care that survives contact with reality

Practical answers for buying guides: pads, rotation, spills, professional cleaning intervals, and what actually voids a rug.

Before you print

Two numbers worth checking

Knot count is the most-quoted and most-misquoted figure in rug writing. If a spec sheet gives you one of these, it is worth a second call — to us or to anyone.

"400 knots per square inch, hand-knotted to order"

At that density you are looking at traded Kashmiri silk, not workshop production to order. Specified hand-knotted ranges run roughly 20 to 180 KPSI. Anything far above that is a fineness claim about the design, not a durability claim about the rug.

"Higher knot count means a better rug"

Knot count sets how fine a pattern the weave can resolve. A bold geometric at 180 KPSI is wasted money; a fine floral at 40 reads as mud. The correct density is a property of the design, and durability is governed by wool grade and pile density instead.
