Custom rug development

Artwork in, physical sample out — in about fifteen days.

The path from a design brief to a shippable product: CAD, sampling, lab dips and production, done in-house on our own floor.

The design stage

From artwork to a room render, in one file

Before a knot is tied, we can render the rug in your space — the same CAD that later becomes a knot map. Buyers see the piece in situ, not just as a swatch.

The steps, in the order they happen

  1. Brief. A CAD, sketch or reference photo; target size; construction preference; quantity. If no design yet, our studio develops CAD from your reference.
  2. Quotation. Detailed pricing with material options, returned the same working day.
  3. Knot map. Your CAD becomes a graph-paper knot map — every square one knot, every colour a numbered yarn.
  4. Lab dips (~10 days). Small dyed yarn samples posted for your approval, matched to Pantone TPX/TCX or ARS 1400 references.
  5. Strike-off (~15 days). A physical rug sample in your hands, made to the approved knot map and approved dye lot.
  6. Production. Lead time confirmed with the quotation — depends on construction, artwork and volume.
  7. QC and shipment. Size against ±3% tolerance, weight against specified GSM, finish against your approved sample; rolled, wrapped, labelled, shipped.

What we need from you to start

  • Artwork: CAD, high-resolution image, or a written brief clear enough for a designer to work from.
  • Target size(s) and quantity(ies).
  • Construction preference — if you don't know, we recommend based on the design and end use.
  • Any colour references (Pantone TPX/TCX numbers, physical swatches, ARS 1400 codes).
  • Any certification requirements (RWS wool, GRS recycled, Oeko-Tex, GoodWeave).
Frequently asked

Frequently asked

How does custom rug development actually work?

You send a design (CAD, sketch or reference photo), target size, construction preference and quantity. We return a detailed quotation the same working day, produce a physical strike-off in about fifteen days, match colours through lab dips, and only start production once the sample is in your hand and approved.

How long does sampling take?

Around 15 days from an approved CAD to a physical strike-off in your hands. Lab dips (colour matching) run in parallel at around 10 days.

Do you develop CAD from a brief?

Yes. If you don't have a CAD, our studio develops artwork options from your reference imagery, mood board or written brief — the same team that later turns the approved CAD into a knot map.

Can you match a specific colour or Pantone reference?

Yes. We dye yarn in-house and match to Pantone TPX/TCX references or physical swatches through lab dips — small dyed yarn samples sent for your approval before production. Lab dip turnaround is around 10 days. ARS 1400 references are matched the same way.

What sizes can you produce?

Any size. Handmade means we are not limited to standard dimensions — rounds, ovals, runners, irregular shapes and oversized pieces (single rugs over 5 × 8 m, loom permitting) are all regular work. Size tolerance is ±3%.
