Fifteen questions we hear most often — from buyers, designers and end customers — with answers written from our own production floor.

Frequently asked

Everything buyers commonly ask

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom rugs?

Our MOQ for custom designs is 10 square metres per design, per colour. For sampling, we produce single strike-off pieces so you can approve quality, colour and construction before committing to a production run. Stock designs and smaller trial orders are handled case by case — most serious buyers start with a sample order.

How long does custom rug production take?

Production lead time is confirmed with your quotation — it depends on the weave type, artwork complexity and order volume, so we commit to a date per project rather than quoting a generic number. Hand-knotted pieces take longest because knotting speed is fixed by hand; hand-tufted and handloom programmes run faster. Sampling takes around 15 days from approved CAD to physical strike-off in hand.

Can you manufacture rugs under our brand name (private label)?

Yes — private label and OEM manufacturing is the core of our export business. We produce to your designs, specifications and quality standards, with your branded labels, barcodes and packaging, and ship directly to your warehouse or fulfilment partner. Your designs remain confidential and are never shown to, or produced for, other buyers.

Do you sign NDAs and protect exclusive designs?

Yes. Design confidentiality is standard in our buyer agreements: your CADs, colourways and constructions are ring-fenced to your account. We do not display, resell or adapt client-exclusive designs for any other buyer.

What shipping terms do you offer?

We ship worldwide on FOB, CIF or DDP terms depending on your preference, by air from IGI Delhi and by sea from Nhava Sheva (Mumbai). Rugs are rolled, wrapped in moisture-resistant LDPE, and labelled with your barcodes for direct-to-warehouse receiving. We handle export documentation, certificates of origin, and any certification paperwork your customs or retailers require.

How do I get a quote?

Send us your design (CAD, sketch, or reference image), target size, construction preference and quantity — we return a detailed quotation with material options and lead time within a few hours, same working day in almost all cases. If you don't have a design yet, our team develops CAD options from your brief.

Can you match a specific colour or Pantone reference?

Yes. We dye yarn in-house and match to Pantone TPX/TCX references or physical swatches through lab dips — small dyed yarn samples sent for your approval before production. Lab dip turnaround is around 10 days. We also match to ARS 1400 colour references.

Do you supply rugs for hotels and commercial projects?

Yes, we manufacture for hospitality and commercial interiors: custom sizes for lobbies, corridors, guest rooms and restaurants, with constructions selected for traffic level and cleanability. We work from designer briefs and produce to project schedules with room-by-room labelling for installation.

What does GoodWeave certification mean?

GoodWeave certification means our rugs are made free of child labour, forced labour and bonded labour, verified through unannounced inspections of our production network. Each certified rug can carry the GoodWeave label, and licence numbers are verifiable directly with GoodWeave International. For retailers, it is the most recognised ethical-sourcing assurance in the handmade rug industry.

What is the difference between hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs?

Hand-knotted rugs are woven knot by knot on a loom — each knot tied individually around warp threads — making them the most durable and valuable construction, often lasting generations. Hand-tufted rugs are made by punching yarn through a stretched canvas with a tufting tool, then securing the back with latex and a cloth backing; they achieve rich pile and detailed designs at a significantly lower price and faster production time.

What is GSM in rugs?

GSM (grams per square metre) is the weight of pile material per square metre of rug, and it is the most objective single measure of how much material a rug contains. A higher GSM generally means denser pile, better underfoot feel and longer wear. We verify GSM on every piece at receiving: actual weight divided by actual area must match the specified GSM for the quality.

What is knot count?

Knot count (KPSI — knots per square inch) measures how many hand-tied knots fit in one square inch of a hand-knotted rug. Higher counts allow finer design detail and denser pile; 100 KPSI is a solid quality rug, while very fine pieces exceed 300. Knot count matters for hand-knotted rugs only — tufted and loom constructions are measured by GSM and pile height instead.

What materials do you use?

Our primary material is wool — including New Zealand wool for its long staple, whiteness and resilience — alongside cotton, jute, recycled PET yarn (GRS certified), viscose and bamboo silk for sheen accents. Material choice is driven by the design and end use: we advise buyers on the right fibre for traffic level, budget and sustainability targets.

What rug sizes can you produce?

Any size. Handmade production means we are not limited to standard dimensions — round, oval, runner, irregular shapes and oversized pieces (including single rugs over 5 × 8 metres, loom permitting) are all regular work. Standard export sizes (from 60 × 90 cm doormats up to 300 × 400 cm and beyond) are produced against size-tolerance standards of ±3%.

Why are rugs from Bhadohi special?

Bhadohi, in Uttar Pradesh, is India's largest handmade carpet cluster — a weaving tradition running for centuries, recognised with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for its hand-knotted carpets. The region's ecosystem of skilled weavers, dye houses, washing facilities and finishing units in one place is why global brands source here: complete rug-making capability within a few kilometres.
