Bamboo silk — the sheen of silk from a grass

Bamboo cellulose regenerated into a fine, continuous yarn — glossy, cool and remarkably soft underfoot. The light-play of real silk at a gentler price.

See how bamboo silk is used across our four constructions on the manufacturing overview.

One rug, start to finish

This rug began as a photograph a client sent us. No CAD, no specification — a picture of something they liked, and a room to fill. We drew it, matched the colours in bamboo silk, and wove it. What follows is that one rug, from the yarn to the day it was laid.

The story of bamboo silk

Bamboo silk

01 · The grass

Fast-renewing source

Bamboo is among the fastest-growing plants on earth, regrowing from its own root system after harvest without replanting. That is why bamboo silk anchors ranges built around renewable inputs.

02 · From cane to cellulose

Regenerated fibre

The plant's cellulose is regenerated into a fine, continuous viscose-type fibre — glossy, cool and remarkably soft underfoot.

03 · In the rug

Light-play across a whole surface

Bamboo silk delivers the light-play of real silk across a whole rug at a gentler price, in solids, tone-on-tone carving and wool-and-bamboo-silk designs where the sheen traces the pattern.

Where it does and doesn't belong

Bamboo silk is more delicate than wool: it prefers dry rooms, gentle care and moderate traffic. We say this on the specification, because a fibre chosen with open eyes is a customer who comes back.

Who this fibre is for

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

What is bamboo silk made of?

Bamboo silk is a regenerated-cellulose viscose fibre spun from bamboo pulp. It looks and behaves like silk but is a plant-derived material.

Bamboo silk vs viscose?

Bamboo silk is a viscose — specifically one whose source is bamboo. Not every viscose is bamboo silk; those spun from wood pulp are marketed as viscose or rayon.

Where should I use it?

Bedrooms, low-traffic living rooms, formal settings. Avoid entryways, kitchens and pet-heavy homes.
