Oeko-Tex via Hohenstein, plus a monthly Eurofins panel
Certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 through Hohenstein in Germany, and separately screened every month at Eurofins Product Testing India in Gurgaon against a Chem-ST restricted-substances panel — thirty-one parameter groups, essentially all Not Detected.
What chemical testing does PiHue perform, and where?
PiHue rugs are certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 through Hohenstein in Germany, and separately screened every month at Eurofins Product Testing India in Gurgaon against a Chem-ST restricted-substances panel covering AFIRM RSL limits, EU regulation (REACH Annex XVII, REACH SVHC, POP Regulation) and partial GOTS parameters. The two together cover essentially every restricted-substance question a buyer asks — and both are named third-party labs, not internal claims.
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 — Hohenstein, Germany
PiHue holds Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification in the base class, tested and certified through Hohenstein in Germany. Most competitors who claim Oeko-Tex cannot say which institute performed testing; naming the institute matters because Oeko-Tex has authorised institutes in many jurisdictions and the certification's rigour is set by the institute's own laboratory practice.
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 tests every material in the rug — yarn, dye, latex, backing — against concentration limits for hundreds of regulated substances published in the standard's annually-updated criteria catalogue. The certification is renewed annually. Certificate details are shared during buyer onboarding rather than published, per our identifier publication rule.
What is the Chem-ST panel at Eurofins Gurgaon?
The Chem-ST panel is a monthly random restricted-substances screen run at Eurofins Product Testing India in Gurgaon, covering three rating frameworks at once: Chem-ST (AFIRM RSL limits), EU Regulation (REACH Annex XVII, REACH SVHC, POP Regulation) and partial GOTS parameters. It runs against thirty-one parameter groups and every recent report has come back with essentially all substances Not Detected. Overall rating: PASS on both Chem-ST and EU Regulation.
The most recent report tested dyed wool and non-dyed cotton flatweave across five colourways for destinations in the USA and Europe, with an eight-day turnaround.
Which standards does the Chem-ST panel test to?
The panel cites the following international standards, one per parameter group:
- Azo dyes and aromatic amines — ISO 14362-1:2017, ISO 14362-3:2017
- Alkylphenols and ethoxylates
- Bisphenols
- Chlorobenzenes and chlorotoluenes
- Chlorophenols — EN 17134-2:2023
- Chlorinated paraffins
- Dimethyl fumarate — ISO/TS 16186:2021
- Disperse dyes
- Formaldehyde — ISO 14184-1:2011, JIS L1041:2011 A
- Total and extractable metals
- Chromium VI — DIN EN 16711-2:2016
- Monomers
- Brominated and organophosphorus substances
- Organotins — CEN ISO/TS 16179:2012
- Total fluorine and total organic fluorine
- PFAS
- Phthalates — ISO 14389, CPSC-CH-C1001-09.4
- Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) — AfPS GS 2019:01
- Cyclosiloxanes D4, D5, D6
- Solvents and residuals — EN 17131:2019
- VOCs — headspace GC-MS
- Quinoline — DIN 54231:2022
- UV absorbers and stabilisers — ISO 24040:2022
- pH — ISO 3071:2020
- REACH SVHC — screened against 247 substances on the ECHA candidate list published 21 January 2025
Are the pH results publishable?
Yes — the most recent panel reported pH results of 5.69, 6.53, 6.02, 6.74 and 6.61 against a textile limit of 4.0 to 7.5 (ISO 3071:2020). All five colourways passed comfortably inside the band.
pH sits in the middle of the textile-safe range because our dye house holds the finish rinse at neutral. A skipped final rinse would push pH out of band; the monthly test would catch it before shipment. Publishing the numbers rather than the pass/fail is the difference between a claim and evidence.
Does PiHue offer GOTS certification?
No. The Chem-ST panel includes partial GOTS parameters, but the report states that the entire GOTS parameter set was not tested — PiHue is not GOTS-certified and does not claim GOTS certification on any programme. If a project requires GOTS specifically, we recommend the buyer specify a GOTS-certified supplier.
Can PiHue arrange California Prop 65 or a REACH SVHC statement?
California Proposition 65 clearance is available on request through Eurofins, chargeable to the project. REACH SVHC statements are supplied on request — the monthly panel already screens against the ECHA candidate list, so a statement for a specific shipment can be issued directly from that data with no additional test.
How often is chemical testing performed?
The Chem-ST panel runs monthly against a random sample from the production floor. This is a routine batch check, not a per-shipment test — do not read this as "every shipment is tested". A buyer whose project requires per-shipment chemical testing should say so at PO stage; we then arrange the additional per-shipment work through Eurofins alongside the routine monthly panel.
What documentation does the buyer receive?
Test reports are available to buyers on request. The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificate is shared during buyer onboarding; the most recent monthly Chem-ST report is available to any buyer whose account is open with us, with report numbers and sample identifiers redacted per our publication policy.
Frequently asked
Where is PiHue's Oeko-Tex testing performed?
At Hohenstein in Germany. PiHue holds Oeko-Tex Standard 100 in the base class, tested and certified through Hohenstein. Most competitors who claim Oeko-Tex certification cannot say which institute performed the testing; naming the institute is a differentiator worth checking on any supplier.
What is the Chem-ST panel and how often is it run?
The Chem-ST panel is a restricted-substances screen run at Eurofins Product Testing India in Gurgaon. It covers three rating frameworks — Chem-ST (AFIRM RSL limits), EU Regulation (REACH Annex XVII, REACH SVHC, POP Regulation) and partial GOTS parameters — across thirty-one parameter groups. Does PiHue hold GOTS certification?
No. The Chem-ST panel includes partial GOTS parameters, but the entire GOTS parameter set is not tested. PiHue is not GOTS-certified and does not claim GOTS certification on any programme. A project requiring GOTS specifically should specify a GOTS-certified supplier.
What are the pH results from the most recent panel?
5.69, 6.53, 6.02, 6.74 and 6.61 across five colourways — all comfortably inside the textile pH limit of 4.0 to 7.5 defined by ISO 3071:2020. pH sits in the middle of the safe range because our dye house holds the finish rinse at neutral.
Can you arrange a California Prop 65 or REACH SVHC report?
Yes. California Prop 65 clearance is available on request through Eurofins, chargeable to the project. REACH SVHC statements are supplied on request — the monthly Chem-ST panel already screens against the ECHA candidate list (247 substances as of 21 January 2025), so a statement for a specific shipment can be issued directly from that data with no additional test.
Where can I see the chemical test reports?
Test reports are available to buyers on request. The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certificate is shared during buyer onboarding; the most recent monthly Chem-ST report is available to any buyer with an open account, with report numbers and sample identifiers redacted per our publication policy.
